Namaste to all lovely beings in the world!
In day to day life, we come across a lot of situations and events that make us happy and sad, or sometimes do not give us any feelings! Why am I talking about this?
Well, this is what gives us a clue. Check the breathing pattern inside you!
What’s changed? What does it make you feel? How does it affect your response? Coming to the Emotions? Well, sometimes I call it public display of emotions! Happens with each one of us, including me!
So, coming to another question, are my emotions changing breathing? OR my breathing is changing emotions?
Well, both are inter-related - Breathing & Emotions!
Well, a lot of Yogi’s would say, align your mind and body.

And I would rather say, align your breath and emotions.
How would you do that?
In both the cases, the most important is AWARENESS.
- The moment you are in a situation, become AWARE.
- Awareness means “knock knock” to our brain – this will make you feel something is happening.
- Immediately notice your breathing.
- Keep a note of this every time in every situation (happy, sad, anxious, angry, love, etc)
I hear “Ok Komal, I got that, what’s next? This makes no sense till I get some control of the fluctuations”
Yeah, let me share this secret technique with you all, I would love each one to handle their situations calmly and in a composed state of mind!
That’s where we begin about the most important technique I swear by every moment in every situation/event.
- Place your hand on your navel, locate your breath.
- Is your breath shallow (no movement of stomach)? Or is it moving your stomach?
- Take a deep breath. If you are in a state/emotion of anger, anxiety, sad, cranky, confused, overthinking or any such emotion, you may not feel the breath at first instance. Hold on, keep going, take multiple deep breaths.
- Once you feel the breath reaching your stomach, bang on! Keep breathing deeply, that’s when your emotions will change and you start feeling better.
- (if there is no one around, close your eyes while practicing the breathing technique)
To briefly explain, the most important breathing technique which I swear by is the breath that reaches the stomach and creates a movement of inside stomach. Inhalation feels like the stomach is blowing out, like you are blowing air into a balloon and exhalation feels like you are releasing the air pressure from the filled balloon.
Inhalation – take complete breath inside till your stomach
Exhalation – get all the stale energy out of your body
When can you do this breathing technique?
Hmm.. its easier said than done, however you should be maintaining this breathing technique every moment of your life. Every breath you take should be deep, with out stressing your body or making any stressful body movements or stiffening your body.
The breath should be very gentle and smooth, such that only you can feel it.
Benefits of this breathing technique:
1. Gets your body activated, preferable you should be practicing it every morning once you open your eyes and are yet on lying on the bed.
2. Creates awareness within the body with mindful activity (you exactly know what you are doing)
3. Washes away the negative feelings
4. Promotes Responding to a situation, rather than reacting or being overwhelmed
5. Mind works more effectively
6. Allows yourself to be in the present moment
7. It also helps to release the past emotions and leading to harmony
8. Physically, in your body, it allows oxygen to completely fill the lungs and exhale all the left over stale oxygen.
9. Promotes the organs to function better
10. Makes you fresh and gets you active (Excellent for lazy people, who think of doing work but don’t feel like doing it)
11. Better blood circulation in the body
The list is endless with so many benefits. I could go on and on. I personally have noticed the visible differences with this powerful technique.
With this note, I shall let you practice the above breathing technique and be in the moment!
